- Attention:
- This network software is compatible with Ceres_Net.
- You can connect several MacOberon_Macintoshes via Ceres_Net,
- using standard LocalTalk cabling plugged into one of your Macintosh's
- ports while simultaneously operating a standard AppleTalk network
- connected to the other port. However, you should not link the two
- networks together because they use different network protocols.
- The port ID and the Ceres-Network number of your Macintosh are
- stored in a parameter resource in the MacOberon Application.
- Use ResEdit to set it to another value. These value for the port
- number is a textual representation, not binary. The IDs of all
- Macintoshes on a Ceres-Net must be unique.
- Operating the Ceres-Net software on a Macintosh IIfx requires
- setting the Macintosh to "compatibility mode" using the
- "IIfx Serial Switch" desk accessory. This is supplied by Apple
- at no charge and can be downloaded from many bulletin boards.
- Warning:
- Using Ceres-Net software on Macintosh IIfx'es that are not
- set to "compatibility mode" may result in a system crash.
- This only applies to Macintosh IIfx computers, as outlined in
- Apple's technical notes. All other types of Macintosh can use
- this software without problems.
- If you set up a server, you can make file and local mail services
- available to registered users.
- Write.Open Server.Tool
- for details.
